The most famous place for whales and dolphins watching in Sri Lanka is Mirissa in Galle. A boat can be hired from Mirissa harbour for full day/halfday . Watching Season is from November to April in each year. In addition to that other water sports such as surfing, diving, etc is also available in Mirissa.

Also Kalpitiya is known as a destination for dolphins watching.




Pasikuda(in Tamil Pasikkudah) is a town located along the beach in eastern coast of Sri Lanka. It is 56kms from Polonnaruwa and 35kms from Batticaloa.

Pasikuda is very attractive tourist destination. Infrastructure facilities in the area is now developed and satisfactory accommodation is available.

Since the sea close to the beach is not deep, tourists can walk in to sea with care.

Kumana National Park (BIRDS PARADISE)

Kumana National Park is the most famous place for bird watching. Located in southeastern coast of Sri Lanka. Earlier Kumana was a part of Yala National Park and now it is separate National Park.

Kumbukkan Oya is the main water resource in the park. All tanks and lagoons are filled with Kumbukkan Oya water. Migrant birds and local birds are in the form of big flocks in lagoons in the early morning or evening.

Therefore the best time for bird watching is early morning or evening.Open bill, ibis, purple heron, Painted Storks, Grey heron are some varities among other birds.

Sinhala and Tamil devotees’ annual foot pilgrimage to Katharagama is through the Kumana National Park. Accomodation is available in close proximity to the park and recommend for you to contact a reputed travel agent/organiser for your requirements.




Ussangoda is located in between Ambalantota and Nonagama on the Colombo -Katharagama Road. It is a nature reserve bordering the southern beach of Sri Lanka.

The beach is amazing and not recommended for swimming. The nature of soil in the park is quite different from the lands around. Soil is reddis and there are tiny bush forests around it.

Among folk stories about Ussangoda, falling a meteor is the main story. High concentration of Iron related metals/minerals in the soil has given the color of red to the soil of area.


Meemure is known as the most remote village in Sri Lanka. Located in the Knuckles Mountain Range, bordering Kandy and Matale Districts. It is nearly a 7 hour tour straight away from Colombo to Meemure Via Kandy.

From Kandy, travel along Mahiyangana Road to Hunnasgiriya Junction and Turn Left to Lulwatta small Town. Meemure is 15kms away from Lulwatta’. However on your way to Meemure you can visit Victoria Dam & reservoir.

Cobert’s Gap and Hulu Ganga (river). Knuckles Mountain Range, Lakegala,Heen Ganga (River) and Gala Muduna are some of places you visit while you are experiencing Biodiversity of the area. Lodging, Restaurants and camping facilities are available in the village.

Sri Dalada Maligawa – Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha

Sri Dalada Maligawa or Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha is one of the most sacred places to Buddhists . It is now identified as a world heritage site.

Kandian architectural designs gives marvellous appearance in side the Temple. Moonstone( Sandakada Pahana) and Makara Thorana are some of stone carvings and there are number of wood carvings which could not be seen in any temple.Other buildings in the Temple premises are Royal Palace (King’s), Magul Maduwa , Maha Maluwa and Museum.


Trincomalee is situated in eastern coast of Sri Lanka and famous for natural harbour more important in the Asian region. Earlier it was known as Thirukonamalai(In Tamil)and Thrikunamalaya (In Sinhala) .

After taking over the ruling power of Sri Lanka by British, name of city had been changed to “Trincomalee”.

Knuckles Range

Knuckles Range is a marvellous creation of nature located in Matale and Kandy Districts of Central Province .Name of Knuckles had been introduced by British due to its nature .It was earlier known as “Dumbara Mitiyawatha” which

means misty mountain range and still use same by residents in Central Province. It is common that the area is with thick clouds and also called cloud forests.

Knuckles is also a Biodiversity rich area which is 3000ft(915metres)above the sea level.

Nuwara Eliya Flower Garden managed by M C is another attraction located in the city. The Garden is amazingly bloom
during the Spring season. Gregary Lake ; is situated at centre of Nuwara Eliya ,and constructed during the period of British Governer Sir Gregory in 1873. Boating (pedal and speed) is available for your fun. Horton Plains and World’s End Horton Plains is 6900 ft(2100metres) above the sea level and is very rich in Biodiversity. Also the plants in the area are endemic to Horton Plains. It is located 32kms from Nuwara Eliya and 6kms from Ohiya.

There are birds in the plains and some species therein are only could be seen in Horton Plains. Also You can see herds of samba deer in the area. When you are walking you can see the Biodiversity of the land with mist or clouds. World’s End is on your walking way .

If you peep down from World’ End you will see Tea plantations of Balangoda area of Sabaragamuwa Province. If the sky is free of mist , you will have a marvellous view of clouds. Now you are walking towards Baker’s Falls. It is a
famous water fall located within the Horton Plains. There are butterflies and birds on your way back to exit.

Badulla; When you go to Badulla you will see Muthiyangana RajaMaha Vihara (Monestry). Dunhinda Water Falls is major attraction of tourists situated in Badulla Mahiyangana road (5 kms from Badulla). From the main road you have to walk more than 1 km along a foot path. Height of Water Fall is 210ft(64metres) Amazingly spreads out as a smoke of water and beuty of the fall enhances during the rainy season.
